Results of this year’s AMA Resident Hospital Health Check are out with huge increases in reported cases of bullying and harassment.

Results of this year’s AMA Resident Hospital Health Check are out with huge increases in reported cases of bullying and harassment. At the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital 44% of respondents reported experiencing bullying and harassment up 10% from the year before. At the Princess Alexandra 35% of junior doctors reported that they had been personally bullied up from 6% in 2017.

Bullying and harassment is unacceptable in all workplaces, hospital and health services. The cost of bullying extends well beyond the doctor being bullied, affecting the health care team and the patients they care for. Advocating for a healthy workplace is a professional responsibility for all doctors.
